The transdisciplinary research project TuneOurBlock aims to validate, internationalize, and expand the superblocks concept as a policy and planning strategy for transformational urban adaptation. As a key member of a team that includes municipal planners, practitioners, researchers, and NGOs, LAUT is working to co-create effective and transferrable guidelines, policy options, and tools for implementing superblocks in varied urban contexts.
TuneOurBlock examines strategies to respectfully involve diverse stakeholders and explores practical steps for implementation processes. These strategies are tested in Urban Living Labs in Vienna and Berlin and assessed by partners in Slovenia and by Europe-wide peer-groups of municipal and civic stakeholders.
The lessons learned throughout the TuneOurBlock research project will be translated into recommendations for empowering European cities to implement superblocks and general knowledge for how to effectively approach transformational urban interventions. A strong dissemination package transfers the results to policymakers, municipal administrations, academia, the private sector, and civil society.
Within TuneOurBlock LAUT further developed the approach of collaborative 1:50-scale workshop methods. To facilitate workshops in the Living Lab Lichtental we designed, built and utilized a planning cart for hosting on-street workshops. During the course of the project LAUT was instrumental to facilitate the internal meetings and also to bring together the International Superblock Meetings.
