Collaboration City is a development project for the implementation of climate-friendly neighborhoods in Europe. It vertically connects the European Green Deal and Vienna's strategic climate goals with neighborhood-scale urban living environments. Collaboration City aims to implement nature-based solutions (NBS) and other climate change adaptation and mitigation measures at a transformative scale to step up efforts to combat climate change.
The action fields of (NBS-)planning, mobility, governance, finance, and communication are leveraged for climate-relevant action in a co-creative process. The structural integration of a new umbrella organization is intended to initiate new finance models from public and private sources. Stakeholders on the ground are actively involved via a local district support organization. The built-up urban fabric is cooled, space for greening and public space uses is created, the shift to sustainable mobility is promoted, CO2 is reduced, jobs are created, and urban districts are comprehensively developed and led into the future together with the local population. The Collaboration City process seeks to enable rapid scaling and implementation across Europe.
